Our mission is to change the culture of American business to put growing people and customer value first.
The first way that we accomplish this is through the People First Leaders podcast.
On this show, Doug Utberg interviews founders, CEO’s and CFO’s who prioritize their people and customer value in their businesses. The People First Leaders podcast is currently a Global Top 2% show that Doug is consistently promoting to bring the message of people first leadership to more people across the world.
The reason that elevating people first leaders means so much to Doug is because he was laid off at the beginning of the COVID pandemic because a new executive came into his department and released a significant number of key team members so he could bring in his own people.
Going through this difficult personal and career situation inspired Doug to launch his value-based consultancy in 2020 for people-first leaders to create value for their business and increase profits without layoffs.
The way that Doug achieves this goal is through strategic cost analysis for his clients. Doug’s team assesses the (non-labor) spending profile of partner companies and re-structures contracts on their behalf to generate guaranteed savings.
The way Doug can guarantee the results his team produces is by billing based on successful savings only. If Doug’s team is not able to deliver savings for your company, you will not owe him anything. The reason why Doug does business this way is because he believes in power of value and doesn’t want to push any risk onto clients.

Doug Utberg is Host of the ‘People First Leaders’ podcast where he meets with Founders and CEO’s who prioritize people and customer value first.
Prior to starting his business and Podcast, Doug worked in the High-Tech industry for 20 years, holding a multitude of job roles in Finance and Information Technology.
All of this came to an abrupt end on April 20, 2020 when the new Chief Information Officer at his company abruptly scheduled a 30-minute meeting with no subject. 30 seconds after joining the call, Doug learned that his role was being eliminated. One minute into the call, Human Resources joined and five minutes after that his network access was Terminated.
At this point, Doug was unemployed (Along with 40 million other people during COVID) with an $800k mortgage, a wife plus two children, $30k of private school tuition due for the year and absolutely no income for the household because he was the sole provider.
The anxiety and self-doubt that resulted from this event inspired Doug to make his action about helping to prevent other people from experiencing the same career displacement that he went through. This is what resulted in the ‘People First Leaders’ podcast where Doug celebrates Founders & CEO’s who put their people and their customers first.
In addition to his podcast, Doug’s business partners with companies to reduce their expenses without layoffs. He services clients with a zero-risk proposition where he is only paid for producing tangible results.
Outside of his podcast and business, Doug engages in a multitude of activities to serve the community.
Having earned the rank of Eagle during his time in Scouting, Doug now serves as the Committee Chair for his son’s Scout Troop.
In addition to this, Doug serves his church congregation on the Board of Elders after 9 years in the roles of President and Vice-President.
